Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, July 1 through July 17, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 97 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Driver hospitalized after crash near Alberta border
On Monday, July 11 at about 11:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 93 approximately 10 km south of the Trans-Canada Highway in Kootenay National Park. The driver of a Jeep Wrangler lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road. The driver was transported to an Alberta hospital with unknown injuries.
Officer aids man experiencing medical emergency
On Tuesday, July 12 at about 1:15 a.m., an officer was conducting patrols in Radium Hot Springs when he observed a male lying on the ground near Highway 93. Upon speaking to the male, the officer learned he was experiencing a medical emergency. Ambulance paramedics and fire/rescue were dispatched and transported the male to the hospital to be assessed.
Injured paraglider rescued
On Thursday, July 14 at about 4:45 p.m., police received a report of a paragliding accident in the mountains east of Invermere. Columbia Valley Search and Rescue were activated and, with the assistance of Glacier Helicopters, they were able to locate the paraglider who had suffered a leg injury and bring him to a waiting ambulance for transport to the hospital.
Boat patrol conducted on Lake Windermere
On Sunday, July 17, Columbia Valley RCMP officers conducted a boat patrol on Lake Windermere. Approximately 30 boats were checked for compliance of safety equipment and operator sobriety. Two vessel operators received warnings for not having a spotter while towing and were directed to return to shore. One vessel was assisted to shore due to a mechanical failure and four paddle boarders were directed to return to shore for not having lifejackets on board.
