Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

This past week, April 17 through April 23, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 52 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

Crashed vehicle stolen from Cranbrook linked to two valley thefts

On April 17, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a theft from a hotel in Radium Hot Springs where approximately $600 and some spare room keys had been stolen. This occurred at about 5 a.m. and not too long after a reported theft from mail boxes happened in Fairmont Hot Springs.

The video surveillance at both locations captured the suspects and police believed it was the same suspects involved at both locations.

At approximately 10 a.m., the local RCMP was made aware of a single vehicle collision that had occurred on Highway 95 near Golden. The vehicle involved had been stolen out of Cranbrook the night prior.

A search of the vehicle located items linking it to both thefts. The suspects have been identified and the matters are still under investigation.

PSAC strike impacting some Detachment services

On Wednesday, April 19 the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) officially went on strike. This has impacted all RCMP detachments in some capacity. The Columbia Valley Detachment will still be open during normal business hours. However, some non-emergency requests such as fingerprinting and criminal records checks could take longer than usual to process.
