Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

This past week, June 26 to July 2, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 84 calls for service. Over 30 of those calls were traffic related; collisions, driving complaints etc. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

No injuries in four vehicle crash at Windermere

On June 30, Columbia Valley RCMP attended a collision involving four vehicles on Highway 93/95 in front of the Windermere Fire Hall. It was determined the lead vehicle slowed to make a left hand turn off the highway. The two vehicles behind began to slow as well. However, the fourth did not and rear-ended one of the vehicles, which caused a chain reaction of collisions. Thankfully no one was injured.

Hikers rescued near Panorama

On July 2, Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of two overdue hikers near Panorama. The hikers were hiking a mountain across from Panorama and got into an area that they could not get back from. They had cell service and GPS coordinates which were relayed to Columbia Valley Search and Rescue who were able to locate and safety return the hikers.

See the separate story on a two fatality crash in Kootenay National Park.
