Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, September 11 to September 18, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 81 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Search continues in Lake Windermere for missing man
On September 16, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a male who had gone under water in Lake Windermere and had not resurfaced. Police responded along with the Windermere Fire Department and Columbia Valley Search and Rescue and searched the lake and the lakeshore, including an aerial helicopter search. Unfortunately, the male has not been located at this time and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team is doing a search of the lake bottom.
Public asked to remain patient on local highways
Twenty-one per cent of calls for service were related to traffic complaints and/or motor vehicle collisions. With the paving project of Highway 93/95 between Windermere and Canal Flats along with the imminent closing of Highway 1 and re-routing of traffic through Kootenay National Park and Highway 95 to Golden, we are asking members of the public to be patient and abide by the posted speed limits. These temporary inconveniences are required to continue to improve the highway system in our area.
