This past week, May 13 to May 20, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 81 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Minor injuries in crash near Windermere landfill
On May 14, the Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover on the Windermere Loop Road near the dump. The male driver sustained minor injuries. A roadside breath sample was demanded and it was determined the male driver was sober and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Man missing from Bellingham, Washington located by RCMP in Invermere
On May 16, police received a call from a transit bus driver stating he was being followed by a car with Washington state license plates for over two hours. Police intercepted the vehicle as it entered Invermere and spoke with the 63-year-old male driver who indicated he was not aware he was in Canada and did not know why he would be. The male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and brought to the Invermere and District Hospital. It was learnt the male had been reported missing out of Bellingham, Washington.
Long weekend checkstops uncover one impaired driver
On May 18, Columbia Valley RCMP conducted two separate checkstops, stopping approximately 210 vehicles. Multiple Mandatory Alcohol Screening demands were made; however, no impaired drivers were detected. On May 19 an additional checkstop was conducted in partnership with BC Highway Patrol with approximately 150 vehicles checks with one impaired driver taken off the road.
Eight noisy parties and a dozen traffic complaints over long weekend
The May long weekend saw police respond to eight noisy party complaints and 12 traffic complaints. Given this past weekend is one of the busiest in the valley, most people behaved themselves and responded well when contacted by police.
