Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, June 17 to June 24, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 91 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Bear sited swimming in Lake Windermere
On June 21, Columbia Valley RCMP received a call from a boater that had observed a bear swimming in Lake Windemere. The caller was concerned for both the bear and other users of the lake. Police made patrols; however, it was learnt that the bear, after completing his refreshing swim on the hot afternoon, returned to the woods without further incident.
Flat deck and forklift theft under investigation
On June 22 at 135 a.m., the Invermere Home Hardware compound was broken into and a yellow flat deck truck was stolen with a forklift on the back. The vehicles were located and recovered in the Cranbrook RCMP Detachment area. Police currently have a suspect for the theft and are continuing the investigation. Hikers disregard ‘trail ends’ sign and end up needing SAR assistance
On June 22 at 2 p.m., police were called for two hikers who had disregarded a “Trail ends here” sign below the Carving in the Canyon lookout just east of the Radium Hot Springs. The two males were too scared to make their own way back down. Columbia Valley Search and Rescue was called and successfully extracted the males.
