Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Sgt. Jeff Witzke

This past week, February 17 through Feb. 23, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 69 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to over the week.

Vehicle fire at Fairmont parking lot

On February 18, Columbia Valley RCMP was called to a vehicle fire at the Fairmont Hot Springs parking lot. The fire department was on scene and able to put the fire out. Unfortunately, the fire did spread to another parked vehicle. Thankfully no one was injured. At this time the fire has been deemed non-suspicious and was believed to have started in the engine compartment.

Minor injuries to logging truck driver in Edgewater crash

On February 19, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision. A loaded logging truck heading toward Radium Hot Springs failed to navigate the corner on Highway 95 near Edgewater and hit the ditch taking out the power lines and losing its load. No other vehicles were involved. The single occupant was taken to Invermere and District Hospital with minor injuries. The downed power line caused a minor power outage in the valley and the highway was closed for a significant time to deal with the logs scattered across it.
