Cross River Evacuation Order downgraded to Alert

The evacuation ORDER in the Cross River area has been downgraded to an evacuation ALERT for nine properties including the Nipika Mountain Resort.

It is important for people within the alert area to remain prepared and follow updates on the Cross River Fire in the event that conditions worsen and an order needs to be re-issued.

The Cross River Fire is estimated at 3015 hectares in size and is burning 23 km north of Radium Hot Springs. There are additional Forest Service Road restrictions around the fire. To view the restrictions and get the latest status on the fire, visit the BC Wildfire Service website.

The following orders and alerts remain in place:
· Meachen Creek / St. Mary Lake Area – Evacuation ORDER – affects 65 rural properties in Electoral Area E in the St. Mary Valley.
· Meachen Creek Fire / City of Kimberley – Evacuation ALERT – affects approximately 4,500 properties including the entire municipal boundary for the City of Kimberley and a few properties in the RDEK to the south and southeast of the city.
· Randal Creek Fire (near Yahk) Evacuation ALERT – affects one rural property in Electoral Area C.
