CVSAR cautions lake ice remains thin

Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) Dec. 7 issued a cautionary reminder that Lake Windermere ice remains thin.

“The lake has only been frozen over for one week and we have not yet had any negative double digit or even extended periods below -4 this week,” CVSAR noted on social media.

“The mild temperatures this weekend along with the new snow insulating the ice from the cool air may cause it to deteriorate this weekend. Please dress appropriately, carry ice awls and let people know where you are on the lake. Please don’t venture into areas you are not familiar with as the new snow may also mask hazards and dangerously thin ice.”

Columbia Valley Fire Rescue members will be out this weekend performing training and drills (pictured).
