CVSAR rescues two stranded sledders
Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) was called out last night for two stranded snowmobilers in the upper Forster Creek drainage, west of Radium Hot Springs.
“After inclement weather turned a first attempt at a night-time helicopter rescue away, CVSAR was able to successfully extract the subjects in the early morning hours,” CVSAR reported on social media this morning (Feb. 22).
“Although the temperatures were forecasted to plummet to a chilly -30C overnight, the subjects were able to stay sufficiently warm and were suffering from only minor cold exposure.”
CVSAR warns the current cold snap has increased the hazards of injury or being stuck out at night.
“During these temperatures it’s especially important to prepare for the unexpected before you head out. Don’t forget to leave lots of time to return from your adventures before darkness and adding overnight supplies to your backpacks will keep you and your group safe in case of emergency.”
