Extreme Cold Warning for Kootenay and Yoho
Environment Canada this morning issued an extreme cold warning in effect for Kootenay and Yoho national park areas.
“Arctic air is set in place over the Columbias. Brisk easterly winds combined with frigid temperatures are producing wind chill values of minus 35 to 40. Conditions will moderate this afternoon as temperatures rise, with very cold wind chill values returning tonight for Yoho National Park as winds shift to westerly and strengthen,” Environment Canada reported.
The cold snap is expected to end Saturday morning (Feb. 25).
Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
