Firefighters save under-construction business
Members of the Windermere and Invermere Fire Departments responded to a structure fire early this morning on Arrow Road in Athalmer near the Highway 93/95 crossroads.
The fire was located at the new McDonalds Restaurant, which is still under construction, and Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Service Assistant Chief Joss Advocaat says the crews did an excellent job of acting quickly to save the building.
“We got the call just after 3:15 a.m. and thanks to the quick action of all responders, the structure has been saved although it did sustain significant damage.”
Seven Windermere firefighters and two apparatus along with seven firefighters and an engine from Invermere responded to the call.
Fortunately, there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation with assistance from the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
