Fundraiser underway for animal rescue group
The Invermere Companion Animal Network (ICAN) has been saving cats and dogs in the Columbia Valley and beyond for more than a decade.
Volunteer-run, ICAN relies on donations from the public to do their work.
The animal rescue organization is holding a holiday fundraiser, seeking financial support for its year-round efforts and an area resident contacted e-KNOW to see if we could help spread the word.
ICAN is a dog/cat non-profit charitable rescue that (apart from the BCSPCA) rescues and rehabilitates and then eventually re-homes dogs and cats in the East Kootenay.
It operates only on donations from the public.
“Apart from the BCSPCA, there are not many options for people in the East Kootenay to have someone to assist them with their animals, such as seniors who can no longer care for their pets, etc., stray kittens/cats/dogs found by people who don’t want to take them to the BCSPCA, or people who have to give up their pets due to rental situations,” explained ICAN supporter Lauren Darie.
ICAN runs its own shelter in Invermere plus manages “volunteer foster” homes where they place these animals until they are adopted as well as do courtesy posts for people who no longer want their animals but they can’t afford to bring them under the ICAN umbrella, Darie explained.
“As a non-profit/charity, all funds go directly to the care and wellbeing of the animals. Being a volunteer run organization, the only overhead costs are the running of the shelter facility like rent, utilities, etc. – no administrative salaries, etc.,” she said.
ICAN is a volunteer group in need of funds to continue its lifesaving work, Darie said, noting she follows ICAN’s Facebook page and feels they “deserve some recognition for their work.”
To that end, she pointed out an ICAN fundraising campaign currently underway – a holiday E-Card campaign (see below). Order cards here http://www.icanbc.com/greeting-cards-from-ican/
