Local government honoured in tree planting

By Stephanie Stevens

A tree grows inā€¦ Invermere.

Two new trees, in fact.

The District of Invermere (DOI) planted two trees at Pothole Park on Wednesday, May 22, part of a province-wide event supported by the Local Government Management Association of British Columbia (LGMA) and the BC Hydro Community Re-greening Grant.

THE LMGA is a not-for-profit organization that supports the professional development of local government professionals across B.C. and 2019 marks its 100th anniversary and the commemorative tree planting is a way to recognize local government and the essential services they provide.

The DOI elected to plant two trees at the event (a maple and an Ohio buckeye), one for the elected officials as well as one for the DOI staff.

ā€œIt is recognizing the importance of local government and the great work out staff does on behalf of the people of our town,ā€ said DOI Mayor Al Miller. ā€œWhat better job can you have than working for your community?ā€
