New market site meeting approval
By Stephanie Stevens
Sometimes change is amelioration.
At the regular scheduled meeting of the District of Invermere (DOI) Sept 10, a positive comment from the gallery prompted further positive comments from council on the Invermere Farmer’s Market’s new location.
The market, run by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 71 in partnership with the DOI, moved from its long-time location on 6th Avenue to the Lakeview Parking Lot this summer after much ado from some of the vendors.
However, concerns that the move would hinder the market appear to have been allayed, at least for Mayor Al Miller.
“I tried to be at every market this summer,” Miller said. “I talked to vendors and shoppers alike, and pretty well everyone seemed to be happy with the change.”
Coun. Kayja Becker agreed with Miller, despite earlier hesitation.
While at first Becker was reticent about the move, concerned about the timing and views expressed by a few of the vendors, she had a stall at the market this summer and was able to see firsthand how the changes worked.
“I ate my words,” she said.
