Silver Strings Alumni Band rehearsal Dec. 13
Everyone in Invermere and the Columbia Valley knows about the Silver Strings Ukulele band from JA Laird Elementary School.
The brain ‘child’ of long-time valley music teacher and regularly gigging musician Bruce Childs, the Silver Strings has been community event musical fixtures for 25 years.
And now there is a Silver Strings Alumni Band being formed for an upcoming film festival in Invermere.
“We are trying for the first time to put together an alumni band that will perform each night at the Mountainfilm Invermere in February,” said event organizer Bill Johnston.
Bruce Childs and Heather McLeod are inviting anyone who was a member of this great valley tradition to attend the first rehearsal of the Silver Strings Alumni Band this upcoming Tuesday Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Laird School Music Portable.
All you have to do is show up. There will be extra ukuleles.
Back for a second year Feb. 8 to 9 (2019), Mountainfilm showcases culturally rich, adventure-packed, and very inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm festival held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, Colorado.
