Winds chased firefighters to Columbia Valley Centre

A wind event on the evening of August 23, 2024, forced the relocation of personnel at the South Rockies Incident Management Team fire camp in Invermere.

Staff were safely moved to a warm and dry location at the Columbia Valley Centre and thankfully nobody was injured.

We will continue to manage fires within the South Rockies Complex, and the wind event has not raised issues or concerns for the fires in question. Firefighting operations will not be impacted by the relocation of staff.

We are grateful for the support of our local government partners, fire departments and the greater community for helping our staff in the aftermath of last night’s wind event.
