Kootenay park highway updates

UPDATE: Smoke from wildfire may affect visibility. Travel is recommended between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. mountain time. Drivers should anticipate reduced speed and possible delays. The highway may close without notice to ensure safety for motorists. Drivers may take Highways 1 and 95 ‎as an alternate route to the Columbia Valley. Updated on Sunday, August 6 at 7:24 a.m.

DriveBC reports that Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park is once again closed due to the 11,000 hectare Verdant Creek wildfire.

The highway is closed from Radium Hot Springs to the British Columbia and Alberta border due.

The report notes there is no estimate for when the highway will be re-opened, with an assessment ongoing. According to DriveBC the next update will be at noon, Sunday, August 6. (Updated on Friday, August 4 at 2:59 p.m.)

The alternative route to the Columbia Valley, Highway 95 from Golden, is open. The Crowsnest Pass Highway (Highway 3) is also open but extremely busy as this recent image from DriveBC of the highway at Hosmer shows.
