Radium Rotary starts mental health and wellness initiative

In October 2020, Statistics Canada released that Canadians’ life satisfaction is the lowest it’s ever been since data collection started in 2003.

In 2020, only 43% of Canadians rated their life satisfaction as eight or higher on a 10-point scale; in 2018, this was 73%. Mental health challenges have been a significant ripple effect from the COVID pandemic, and the Rotary Club of Radium Hot Springs is doing something about that.

Motivated by the quickly growing needs for more accessible mental health resources, the Radium Rotary Club approached the Columbia Valley Community Foundation about establishing a fund to focus on just that; and the Radium Rotary Mental Health and Wellness Fund was created.

This unique fund balances the urgent demand for mental health resources, while establishing long-term, sustainable funding for these needs.

The Radium Rotary Mental Health and Wellness fund encompasses two components: an endowment fund and a flow-through fund. For the endowment fund, the principal donations are invested and the investment income proceeds will be used for granting to mental health initiatives. The flow-through fund will support immediate mental health needs with granting starting this year.

All donations will be split 50/50 between the two components (unless otherwise directed by the donor).

To support this initiative, donations can be made to the Radium Rotary Mental Health & Wellness Fund on the CVCF website at www.valleyfoundation.ca/donate-now .

The Columbia Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) is celebrating its 20th year as the connection between donors and community needs. Through community granting and student scholarships/bursaries the CVCF exists to enrich lives in the Columbia Valley.

The Rotary Club of Radium Hot Springs was created in 2003 and are responsible for a number of other initiatives including the Radium Rotary Community Gardens, the Rotary Park (by the roundabout), bridge funding for Sinclair Creek Trail system, student scholarships/bursaries, and highways clean-up.
