Ravenshead Fire Evacuation Order downgraded to Alert

As crews continue to make progress on the Ravenshead Wildfire (N21610), the Evacuation Order that was enacted on July 2, has been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert.

The Evacuation Alert is in effect for nine properties, including Nipika Mountain Resort, Cross River Education & Retreat Centre, Cross River Forest Service Road, and Cross River Canyon Recreation Site.

“While this is great news, the fire remains active and residents should continue to follow updated information on the fire and remain prepared so that they are ready to leave if conditions worsen and an Order should need to be re-issued,” said Regional District of East Kootenay Information Officer Loree Duczek.

A copy of the Alert and associated map is posted on www.rdek.bc.ca.

“The Area Restriction put in place by BC Wildfire Service for this fire remains in effect which means that there is no public access. We encourage all residents to ensure they continue to pay attention to the latest updates and any additional area closures or restrictions,” added Duczek.

The Parks Canada area closure also remains in effect at this time.

The latest updates on the fire can be found on www.bcwildfire.ca.

An information line remains set up at 250-426-2188 or toll free 1-855-346-2188 and, when not staffed, there will be a recorded message with the most up-to-date information.
