Artist Feature
Royal Canoe
This six-piece ensemble from Winnipeg (pictured above) give you everything, but on their own manically hybrid terms.
It’s one thing to reference a particular style, or even a range of styles. It’s another thing entirely to grab huge handfuls of sounds from pretty much anywhere, throw them all together and come up with something both cohesive and totally distinctive-something that also happens to ripple and crack with energy. This is what Royal Canoe does best.
“Royal Canoe are the mad scientists of the Canrock scene.” – The Chronicle Journal
Royal Canoe is the closing act on Saturday, taking to the stage at 9:30 p.m. after the energizing Bend Sinister (8 p.m.), riveting JJ Shiplett (6 p.m.) and Annie Lou (5 p.m.)
Awesome local acts open the fun on Saturday, with the Big Eli B Blues Band – featuring father and son combo Marty and Eli Beingessner and Dave Shaw on drums. They hit the stage at 12:45 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by Sean Cronin and Friends, featuring Sean and father John Cronin, Debra-Jean Creelman, Joseph Denham and David Sikula.
