Search suspended for man presumed drowned
Golden RCMP called in the provincial RCMP dive team after an initial search with Golden Search and Rescue on June 30 failed to locate a 26-year-old man who reportedly dove off a bridge over Beaver Creek and failed to surface.
The initial search involved two boats and a dog, and RCMP and Search and Rescue members comprehensively searched the creek and Kinbasket Lake and shoreline. That search continued July 1.
The BC RCMP Underwater Recovery Team arrived July 1, and has since been conducting a variety of underwater and surface scans. RCMP Air Services were also contacted and have conducted flyovers of Kinbasket Lake and area.
The missing man is from Ireland, and his family arrived in Golden July 2 to be updated on the search for their loved one.
âUnfortunately at this stage police are presuming that the missing man has drowned,â said S/Sgt. Annie Linteau, spokesperson for the RCMP in B.C. âWe have requested that our Air Services unit conduct periodic flyovers of the area throughout the summer, in the hopes that he will be located soon.â
She noted Victim Services has been offered to the manâs family. The investigation remains ongoing.
