Steamboat keeps focus on local talent

Steamboat Mountain Music Festival 2018 is keeping the focus on local talent and affordability.
The central mission of this year’s July 6 to 8 festival is to showcase local and regional musicians.
The seventh annual Steamboat Mountain Music Festival is an affordable, family-friendly weekend in beautiful Edgewater on Friday, July 6, Saturday, July 7 and Sunday July 8.
Friday evening, informal porch parties will open the festival at various locations around town, starting with Edgewater Hilltop Par 3 Golf Course at 5:30 p.m. and wrapping up with the big jam at the main street post office/community park from 9:30 to 11 p.m.

Performers on the Saturday Main Stage include Oscar Lopez, Cameron Molloy and John Cronin, Waltzing Matildas, the Thomas T Blues Band, the Pickups, Beerfish, Flint & Feather, Fairwater 54, and the Sundown Uppers.
On the Tweener Stage the line-up includes: Mickey Maione, Carrington & Syenna Mitchell, Emma Postlethwaite, Jocelyn Taylor, Will Wardwell and Barry Westerlund.
Once again A-Muse Troupe, our favourite cirque/improve team will be up to their usual pranks and stunts, and festification throughout the afternoon. This year, they will be helping children create musical instruments from recycled items.
Non-stop music starts at noon and runs on the two stages until 10 pm in the park, then moves inside to the dance party in the Edgewater Community Hall until 1 a.m.

On Sunday, Music Workshops start at 11 a.m. at Edgewater All Saints Churchyard.
Conner Derbyshire reveals some of the secrets of electro-acoustic mixing and sampling. Cameron Molloy offers advice on the songwriting process, keeping a band tour on budget, and maintaining integrity in the music business. Oscar Lopez explores the mystery and magic of his chosen instrument – the guitar.
These sessions are designed for aspiring musicians, but all festival ticket holders and Steamboat Mountain Music Society members are welcome to attend for free, with a $5 charge for non-members.
