Steamboat Tweener Stage a vital part of festival
Steamboat Mountain Music Festival – July 5-6-7
What is a Tweener Stage? Glad you asked.
It’s a smaller stage that is used to present shorter 15-minute sets by solo or duo performers who don’t require complex sound set-up arrangements.
We use a Tweener Stage so music can be presented during sound tech change-overs between Main Stage acts. It enables Steamboat to steam along without gaps. It provides opportunities for more musicians to get up and play before an audience. It enables us to introduce emerging artists who may not have a full hour-long repertoire, or older artists who may not have the stamina to perform at length on a hot summer day, or a musician who wants to play but the rest of the band is not available that day.
We need to put out a big thanks to Home Hardware for lending us their mobile stage every year to use for Tweeners. This versatile venue allows us to present interesting performers and non-stop content all day!
Back in 2021, Steamboat could not present our festival in its usual format because public health rules during the pandemic did not allow large gatherings. That year, we used Home Hardware’s mobile stage to travel around to different locations in Edgewater to present several brief performances to small audiences in neighbourhoods.
That year, we also produced our epic CD album Shake A Tree. Some of the same performers from that CD project climbed on the rolling stage to play for our festival day.
In the picture above, Steamboat Directors pause for a proud moment to celebrate the Festival’s 10th Anniversary.
