Tactical evacuation in response to Madias Creek wildfire

A tactical evacuation has been performed by RCMP and Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) firefighters this afternoon in response to Wildfire #N21398 (Madias Creek) on the east side of Highway 93/95 by Crooked Tree Road and Kootenay No. 3 Road, approximately seven km north of Fairmont Hot Springs.

The RDEK reports an Emergency Reception Centre location is currently being established and that information will be shared as soon as it is available.

The public is asked to stay away from the area to give responders room to action the fire.

UPDATE: DriveBC reports: Watch for traffic control. Highway 93/95 is open for traffic; speed reduction in place to 50 km/h.

This is a developing situation and more details will be shared as they become available.

The Madias Creek Wildfire was discovered today (July 22) and is estimated at 1.1 hectares in size, BC Wildfire Service reports.
