Toby Benches OCP do-over approved
Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors May 6 unanimously approved the Official Community Plan (OCP) for the Toby Benches.
Bylaw No. 2676’s passage was heralded by Columbia Valley rural directors.
“It is great to see this move,” said Electoral Area F Director Wendy Booth.
“It was fun and interesting” to sit in on the public discussions and open house (held January 13) , said Electoral Area G Director Gerry Wilkie.
A “hot button” that emerged from the process was mountain bikers, he added. “It’s funny how Crown land issues dominate” OCP proceedings. “All they want to do is talk about Crown land, but it certainly was interesting. It is a very committed community,” Wilkie said, adding he appreciates seeing such passion and interest.
The RDEK began the OCP process in January 2015.
This OCP replaces the 1998 model, in order to “update land use policies to reflect current issues, concerns and values within the Toby Benches area,” the RDEK planning document related.
