Winter storm warning for Kootenay Park

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Kootenay and Yoho National Park areas.

It has also issued a snowfall warning for the Golden area.

A Pacific frontal system is expected to remain over southern B.C. through tonight. Areas of heavy snow will continue before beginning to ease in the late overnight hours. Further snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm except up to 50 cm over Rogers Pass are possible by Friday morning, Environment Canada stated this afternoon (Jan. 3).

The West Columbia has seen heavy snow taper off and lower elevations have warmed a little above the freezing mark. Periods of wet snow mixed with rain this afternoon will likely give way to more snow tonight as the system re-intensifies.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
