A unique journey of art and adventure

Embark on a unique journey of art and adventure with the ‘Where is Ed?’ Scavenger Hunt, a collaborative effort by Cranbrook Tourism and Cranbrook Arts.

From August 1 to September 2, 14 distinct pieces of art will be cleverly concealed throughout Cranbrook for locals and visitors to uncover.

This engaging event, designed to celebrate local creativity and community spirit, features contributions from seven local artists who have poured over 350 volunteer hours and their own materials into creating these captivating artworks. The scavenger hunt includes a diverse range of pieces, from intricate ceramic tiles to imaginative mixed-media sculptures, all inspired by the local landscape and culture.

Participants are invited to explore Cranbrook, seeking out the hidden art pieces both indoors and outdoors. With seven pieces placed in indoor locations and seven outdoors, the hunt offers a perfect blend of urban exploration and nature walks. By finding these art pieces, participants can enter a prize draw for a chance to win.

This event is inspired by a piece of Cranbrook’s history. In 1926, 14 elephants escaped from a circus and roamed Cranbrook and area. The longest adventure was by Charlie Ed, later dubbed Cranbrook Ed. This scavenger hunt is a nod to that historical event, inviting participants to embark on their own quest to find “Ed.”

Before the hunt begins, all 14 artworks will be showcased at the Cranbrook Visitor Information Centre (800C Baker St, Cranbrook) from July 16 to July 26.

This pre-hunt exhibition provides a rare opportunity to view the entire collection in one place and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Upon discovering the art pieces, participants can enter a prize draw, adding an extra layer of excitement to the hunt.

Following the event, the artworks will be displayed again at Ed Fest on September 6-7, where the public can bid on their favourite pieces in a silent auction.

Proceeds will support the artists and Ed Fest, fostering the continued growth of the arts in Cranbrook.

Join us for this innovative celebration of art and community.

Experience the thrill of the hunt, the beauty of the artwork, and the joy of discovery with “Where is Ed?” in Cranbrook.
