April Lund showing at 1401 Gallery in May

Cranbrook Arts in May

Cranbrook Arts presents the work of April Lund in the 1401 Gallery for the month of May. This exhibit opens Friday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m.

Born in Saskatchewan, April spent most of her life as a Calgarian, with forays to Penticton, Edmonton (twice), Halifax and Victoria.  Retired from the nine-to-five cycle, she is now thoroughly enjoying the freedom this stage of her life has to offer and embracing the easy lifestyle of the East Kootenay.

An avid explorer with brush, pencil and clay throughout childhood and her public school years, she entered the University of Calgary Fine Arts Program right out of high school. However, the siren’s call of a regular paycheque and family that followed soon after kept her firmly anchored for the next 35 years.

After a second brush with serious illness and a week-long immersion in the finest galleries of London, Edinburgh and Glasgow, April decided it was time to revisit her previous passion and took a course at the Alberta College of Art and Design aptly titled “Painting for the Utterly Intimidated.”

April works mostly in acrylics but is also slowly experimenting with oils. She has also turned her hand to works in wood and mixed media sculpture.

A talk and reception will be held Saturday, May 7 from 2-4 p.m.

Come and meet April, listen to her discuss her work and be able to ask her questions directly. Coffee, tea and goodies will be served.

We would like to notify the public that entry to the 1401 Gallery is now by donation.

All proceeds of this fund are going towards the exterior renovation fund. The 1401 Gallery is open Friday and Sunday 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The featured artists in our 1013 Baker Street Shop for the month of May are the two ladies behind Upcycle Designs, Peggy Toews and Kim Dick.

Their creative items of clothing have brightened our shop for some time now but this is a great opportunity to see a varied selection of their work in one place.

At the 1401 workshop, Lanna Arts is hosting a four-session series of art classes for two-to-four year olds beginning May 11.

Another Paint Night with the two Lauries is scheduled for June 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.

We are looking forward to welcoming Jenn and Noel Moes to our increasing list of instructors. Jenn and Noel have some great new plans for instruction. Please watch our web page for these new classes beginning mid to late May.

Another three session Adult Pottery class begins this coming Friday, May 6. Please check our website to register for all these classes.

All children’s classes are now coming to a close and their final assignments have been to paint four by eight foot murals for our end wall. While we build up our exterior renovation fund, these kid -created murals will brighten another exterior wall and cover some flaws!  We thank Shyre for this brave undertaking and look forward to seeing the finished products installed.

We are very happy to announce that Summer Camps will be on again for this year for the months of July and August.

We are currently recruiting camp leaders and look forward to advertising our themed weekly camps very soon. Registration should be available some time this month. Watch the webpage at cranbrookarts.com.
