As one of 52 Community Foundations in BC, the CDCF takes a unique approach to charitable giving, with a focus on long-term and sustainable benefits to the local community. Donations to the CDCF are permanently invested so that the money earns interest every year. Each year, the CDCF gives the interest out to groups to do good things in our community. The CDCF helps donors keep their donations local, supporting local projects and helping local people through grants that will help improve the quality of life in our the community for many years to come.

According to Dave Struthers, CDCF President, “The CDCF is helping to make our community a better place to live by building a ‘community nest egg.’ Through our annual grants, we build on the positives and help to address gaps in services or resources. Since our first community grants in 2004, the CDCF has contributed almost half a million dollars to local projects and programs. We currently have 27 permanently invested funds, and we look forward to significantly growing our ‘community nest egg’ in the coming years.”

Lynnette Wray, CDCF Executive Director said, “As part of Community Foundations Month, we are so proud to celebrate our new Community Funds in Fernie and in Sparwood, both of which provided their first community grants this year. And we look forward to making an exciting announcement very soon about our newest endowment fund.”

Wray added, “Donating to the CDCF is a really good fit for people who are interested in the long- term well-being of our community, thinking not only about our current community needs but also about our needs for the future. Individuals, organizations, and businesses are able to donate to existing endowment funds or begin their own endowment. For anyone who is interested in learning more about the CDCF or is wondering how they can get involved, please give me a call at 250-426-1119 or send me an email at [email protected].”
