Cranbrook to apply for autumn deer cull
City of Cranbrook council last night directed city administration to apply to the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) for a wildlife permit for the fall of 2018 in order to conduct another deer cull.
Council also received the Urban Deer Management Annual Report 2017 for information and direct staff to submit a copy of the report to MFLNRO as per the requirements of the city’s Wildlife Permit CB17-27605 and per the requirements of the match-funding agreement for the Provincial Urban Deer Operational Cost Share Program.
The city is going to explore another option with the province to see if it can apply for both a cull and a translocation, with the ability to perhaps choose which method to use.
Council also directed staff to publish a copy of the report on the city’s website.
