Cranbrook Transfer Station reopened after fire

UPDATE

The Cranbrook Transfer Station has re-opened after being closed earlier today following a fire in a load of garbage.

The site was temporarily closed to allow emergency responders, site staff and the RDEK to spread out the affected load, wet it down fully and complete the clean up.

“We would like to thank the Cranbrook Fire Department and the Transfer Station staff for their quick actions in keeping the fire isolated to the affected load, and for all their work to get the transfer station back open.  We also would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during the temporary closure,” said RDEK Communications Manager Loree Duczek.

Initial story

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) this morning reports the Cranbrook Transfer Station is temporarily closed following a fire in a load of garbage this morning.

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services, site personnel and RDEK staff are working at spreading and cooling the load, and the site will be closed until the clean-up has been completed.

The RDEK will advise once the site has been re-opened.
