Ethan Askey Band headlines Summer Sounds July 16

The Ethan Askey Band performs on July 16 at 8 p.m. for Summer Sounds at Cranbrook Rotary Park.

Attendees at this free event will experience the live version of Askey’s new album front to back with some added classic (and obscure) interpretations of soul, roots, rhythm, and blues.

The new album ‘Walk When You Wanna Run’ has been charting for 15 weeks straight since its release, reaching #4 in Canada Top 50 and #17 worldwide on both the Contemporary Blues charts (Roots Music Report) and on the Alt Country, based on steady international radio play.

Askey, a Cranbrook-Calgary artist, has followers in Holland, Germany, Spain, Australia, and the United States. The four-piece Cranbrook band includes Keith Larsen (guitars, vocals), Ferdy Belland (bass, vocals) and Ben Dunn (drums, vocals) with special guest vocals from Shawna Plant.

Opening this second show of the eight-week series is Deep Cedar at 6 p.m. followed by Two Ticks at 7 p.m.

Deep Cedar

Sincere, honest, soulful and calming, commonly describe J Lee Appleby’s lonesome original music as Deep Cedar along with his new spins on old classics. Since the debut EP ‘LOONS’ in 2016, this artist has been chronicling his journeys, using new experiences to shape the music shared with audiences in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Two Ticks perform an eclectic mix of folk, country, bluegrass, gospel, and old-time music for audiences young and old, living or dead. The duo, composed of Rollie Cummins (vocals, guitar, autoharp) of Wycliffe and Steve Knowles (vocals, guitar, banjo) from Cranbrook, originally came together as a quartet out of a love for acoustic jamming and vocal harmony. In the face of the trials and tribulations that come with the pursuit of the perfect chord, the group takes heart from its motto: “Ticks Dig Us.”
