Exciting week ahead for Key City Theatre

November is beginning with an entertainment whirlwind at Cranbrook’s Key City Theatre.

Internationally renowned spoken word artist, poet and author Shane Koyczan returns to perform at Key City Theatre November 1.

In a realm where poets rarely intersect with stardom, the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics introduced the world to Shane Koyczan. With a collective “Wow” across Canada and beyond, we found the poet of our generation. The world took notice when Shane’s influential, anti-bullying, ‘To This Day Project’ video went viral in early 2013 with over 14 million views and counting.

Powerfully engaging and authentic in attitude, his explorations are relevant to our changing times in the way that Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Downie and Leonard Cohen are to theirs. But unlike the musicians that he is often compared to, poets rarely infiltrate pop culture. Koyczan (pictured above) emerges in a new wave of 21st century poetry that dares to belong to the people and speak directly to them in their own voice.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

Next up at Key City Theatre is the Dawson Rutledge CD release concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3.

Saturday, Nov. 4 is the Double Date Video Premiere at 8 p.m..

Sunday, Nov. 5 sees Barney Bentall & Cariboo Express rolling into town for a 7:30 p.m. show in aid of children in the East Kootenay.

Barney Bentall and the Cariboo Express Tour is a highly anticipated show like no other; it’s a heart-warming, hilarious variety show of astonishing talents in roots, country, and rock ‘n roll, with a sense of community at the centre of it all.

The Cranbrook show features the East Kootenay’s own Wild Honey playing alongside Barney Bentall, Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall, Wendy Bird, Kendel Carson, Matt Masters, the Gold Rush Allstars, Kirby Barber, Leeroy Stagger and some very special guests.

The Cariboo Express is a sought-after event across Western Canada and makes a significant impact on every community it touches with both its unique fundraising model and highly engaging show. What better way to spend a November night than a show that’s not just an incredibly enjoyable favorite for all ages, but one that makes a difference in the community too. One hundred percent of the profit from this event will benefit Friends of Children, assisting East Kootenay children in medical need.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 7 there is a screening of ‘Their Finest,’ showing at 7 p.m.

And to top off a wild week at Key City Theatre, there is a sold out show by the Barenaked Ladies.

Tickets are still available for all other mentioned shows.
