Farmer’s Market hosting free workshop May 9
Michelle Wolf, one of Canada’s leading Farmers’ Market experts, presents a workshop on best practices for success at farmer’s markets
Vendors, artisans, food growers, stakeholders or anyone thinking of bringing their business to the farmer’s market is encouraged to attend a free workshop on May 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at College of the Rockies.
The workshop will be hosted by one of Canada’s leading farmers’ market experts, Michelle Wolf, and will focus on best practices for success at farmer’s markets.
“It is the fourth and final event in a series of free workshop hosted by the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market aiming to support local vendors in their business,” said Livia Lara, Cranbrook Farmers’ Market manager.
“Former workshops focused on food safety and engaging customers, bookkeeping, and social media. To close the series, we are bringing a very special speaker, Michelle Wolf, all the way from Nova Scotia. The idea is to help get vendors prepared for the upcoming summer markets, when we’ll be celebrating the 10th market season.”
The workshops series was made possible by funding from the Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Program through Columbia Basin Trust and Regional District of East Kootenay and the Municipal Grants from the City of Cranbrook in 2017.
Wolf is the lead facilitator and program developer for the farmers’ market vendor and management training programs throughout Nova Scotia and runs online manager certification programs for the provincial farmers’ market organizations in B.C, Ontario, and Alberta. She is a former award-winning farmers’ market manager, was an 18-year veteran farmers’ market vendor, sat on the founding board of Farmers’ Markets Canada, is a former president of Seeds of Diversity Canada, and teaches and trains across Canada at workshops, conferences, and events.
Wolf’s workshop will focus on two main aspects of best practices:
- Drawing Customers In: Marketing and Promotions for the Farmers’ Market Sector. The workshop begins by taking a practical look at what brings people to farmers’ markets, what draws people to specific booths at a farmers’ market (including your own), and how to build your farmers’ market business without relying on the market itself to find new customers for you
- The Good, the Great (and the Not-So-Great) of Farmers’ Market Merchandising and Displays. This presentation will feature over 60 photograph slides from markets and farm stands around North America, exploring the do’s and don’ts of successful merchandising and setting up a winning display for your product.
