Food bank desperately low on funds

Turkey and Ham Christmas Program returning

As the Christmas season fast approaches the Cranbrook Food Bank is gearing up for its annual Turkey and Ham Christmas Program.

Each year we give away approximately 400 turkeys or hams with stuffing and cranberry sauce. This program runs in addition to our regular hamper program. This year our Turkey and Ham Christmas program will be available to registered clients on December 20 and 22.

In 2016 we gave out an average of 407 hampers a month. We have seen an increase in need of eight per cent and have given out an average of 440 hampers per month so far this year. Many of our new clients are working families with low incomes or senior citizens; 39% of our clients are children.

The cost of groceries has increased by eight per cent. This affects our buying power as well as explains the increase in demand for our service.

We very much appreciate the support of the community for the Cranbrook Food Bank but as Christmas approaches we are desperately low on funds.

To help the Cranbrook Food Bank support those in need in our communities, please visit our website at cranbrookfoodbank.ca or call us at 250-426-7664.  We will be open every day in December (Monday to Friday) to accept your donations.

The Cranbrook Food Bank thanks you in advance for your continued support!
