Groups expand Cranbrook’s Active Transportation Network

Rotary Club of Cranbrook and JCI Kootenay continue with Phase 3 of Moir Park Perimeter Trail on August 17

Rotary Club of Cranbrook in partnership with JCI Kootenay with major sponsorship provided by McElhanney, the City of Cranbrook, Terus Construction (Formerly BA Blacktop) and Emco Waterworks are proud to continue their commitment to Cranbrook’s Active Transportation network with Phase 3 of the Moir Park Perimeter Trail.

This phase will consist of a paved trail connecting the entrance to the park to the dog park, baseball diamonds and south end of the park. This will give better connections to the rest of the park and allow users better access during the winter months. Future phases will see the trail continued around the perimeter of the park and connect to the Rotary Trail and City of Cranbrook cycling networks.

“We are proud to be part of Phase Three of the Moir Park Perimeter Trail project. This initiative reflects our commitment to enhancing community spaces and promoting active lifestyles. With the support of local partners and volunteers, we are creating a trail that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come,” said Rotary Club of Cranbrook 2024 Club President Joe McGowan.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to be involved in this significant project. This is a fantastic chance for us to contribute to something truly extraordinary, and we are eagerly looking forward to the journey ahead,” said JCI Kootenay 2024 Chapter President Chancellor Litke.

The construction work party for phase three will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 17.

Volunteers will then help place gravel in preparation for paving. Food and beverages prepared by The Heidout Restaurant will be provided to volunteers. If you wish to help in this endeavour, you are invited to join the work party this Saturday.

The public is reminded that while construction is happening at Moir Park, it will still be open for use. We ask that you please follow traffic control and any signage. Dog Park access will be the secondary gate while the trail to the main gate is prepared.

Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing you up at the park on a sunny day.
