Hit and run at high school under investigation

On December 4, at 9:30 p.m., Cranbrook RCMP received a report of a hit and run on the 1400 block of Baker Street in front of Mount Baker Secondary School.

A resident’s vehicle that was parked in front of the school was struck by a dark blue vehicle with an unknown licence plate. The suspect vehicle then fled towards the 7-11 on 2nd Avenue North.

The investigation shows video evidence of a smaller single cab pickup truck travelling east on Baker Street, crossing the road and striking the parked vehicle with considerable force.

One witness reported hearing the sound of a vehicle with a high-pitched exhaust enter Baker Street, followed by a “crash” and a then saw a dark vehicle fleeing the scene.

“Cranbrook RCMP is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the vehicle involved in the hit and run,” said S/Sgt. Barry Graham. “It is likely the suspect vehicle will have significant damage.”

The Investigation is ongoing at this time and the Cranbrook RCMP requests any information on the hit and run be reported to the Cranbrook RCMP Detachment.
