ICE add to blue line depth

The Kootenay ICE has signed 2002-born defenceman Benjamin Zloty.

The ICE drafted the Calgary, Alberta native in the sixth round (111th overall) in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

Zloty has played 11 games this season with the Calgary Royals Midget AAA of the AMHL. In those 11 games, he has three goals and nine points.

Zloty was recently a participant at the 40th annual Mac’s AAA Midget World Invitational Hockey Tournament in Calgary. He finished the tournament with two goals and three points in four games.

“Ben is a smart player that can move and distribute the puck; we are excited about the trajectory of his development,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. “We would like to thank Ben and his family for their commitment to the ICE.”

With Saturday’s announcement, the ICE have signed seven of their 10 selections in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft – Connor McClennon (first round, second overall), Anson McMaster (second round, 23rd overall), James Form (third round, 45th overall), Will Gurski (fourth round, 72nd overall), Owen Pederson (fifth round, 89th overall), Benjamin Zloty (sixth round, 111th overall) and Gage Alexander (seventh round, 133rd overall).

The next home game for the ICE is Sunday, January 14 against the Saskatoon Blades. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at ICEcountry.ca, at the ICE Gear Store at Western Financial Place or by calling 250-417-0322.
