Intersection to remain a four-way stop

Following a review of traffic along with a review of the best type of traffic controls for the intersection of 14th Avenue North and 2nd Street North, the City of Cranbrook will be permanently converting the intersection to a four-way stop.

City administration provided council with an update on the project at last night’s council meeting.

Earlier this spring, the electrical controller system failed and is no longer repairable. This is when the city set up the current temporary four-way stop.

The purchase and installation of a new signalized system, based on the recent costs of traffic signals, would cost the city upwards of $850,000.

The intersection study determined that a permanent four-way stop would operate effectively for at least the next 15 years.

Work will be undertaken this fall to update the line markings and signage.
