Investigation continues into suspicious school fire

Cranbrook RCMP is continuing its investigation into the fire at Amy Woodland Elementary School.

Early Sunday morning (June 30), Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services attended Amy Woodland School for a reported fire. The RCMP also attended and began an investigation into the fire.

Cranbrook RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation thus far with providing CCTV and witness accounts from the overnight of June 29 until the fire was discovered, said Cst. Katie Forgeron, Cranbrook RCMP spokesperson.

Multiple persons were observed in the area of the school, along with a group setting off fireworks on the school property at approximately 10:45 p.m.   Other people were also observed on school property later in the evening/overnight.

Police continue to seek the public’s cooperation and are requesting that the persons present on Amy Woodland School property between June 29 and June 30 to please contact the Cranbrook RCMP Detachment.

Anyone who might have information with regard to this fire is asked to contact the local office at 250-489-3471.
