Laura Kennedy to retire from chamber

Laura Kennedy

When Karin Penner retired from the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce, office manager Laura Kennedy became the de facto face of the organization (with all respect to executive directors, presidents etc.).

Vast experience, capability, reliability and performance creates that impression.

For 37-years Kennedy has worked for the businesses and community of Cranbrook and come August 1, she will be retiring from the chamber.

The chamber this morning (June 26) released this statement: “After 37 years at the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce, our beloved office manager, Laura Kennedy, has announced her retirement effective August 1. Laura has dedicated her life and career to the chamber and our members and we are forever grateful for her hard work, determination and commitment to the chamber and our membership.”

Carrie Schafer, e-KNOW’s publisher/co-owner and Sam Steele Society chair was asked to comment about Kennedy’s work.

“She’s invaluable; an integral part of the community… she’s been there time and time again – going way beyond every time. Just look at Sam Steele Days, the business excellence awards, the monthly luncheons, citizen of the year celebrations, turkey drives, golf tournaments, special events and I know I am forgetting a bunch of other things! Laura is a wealth of knowledge and endlessly reliable and on point. I can’t imagine the chamber without her but she personifies having ‘earned retirement,’” she said.

“We wish her well on her new adventure into retirement and encourage our members to send their well wishes to this amazing woman by email to [email protected]. A special retirement party will be forthcoming, more details to follow! Congratulations Laura on a career filled with accomplishment and honour,” the chamber announcement concluded.
