Little Pluckers once again find wings

Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka arrives at the annual luncheon in full Christmas style.

The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce’s Turkey Drive once again reached its fundraising goal, providing more than $60,000 for the Cranbrook Food Bank and Salvation Army.

Chamber members, including Little Pluckers (people who raised money for the cause), dignitaries and guests gathered in The Heid-Out Restaurant and Brewhouse Dec. 13 for the 14th annual Turkey Drive culmination and Christmas luncheon.

Chamber manager Helen Barron announced the fundraising goal had been reached to the large crowd, noting the final figure has yet to be determined as funds are still coming in.

She also noted how one-time multi-term head plucker Jason Wheeldon came to the rescue at the final minute hitting up his contacts to help the drive reach its goal.

Mike Paugh served as this year’s head plucker and he informed the gathering his experience broke his heart, making him realize how many people in the community rely on support from the food bank and Salvation Army.
