Local honoured with national Wishbone Award

On Giving Tuesday (Dec. 3), Think Turkey was thrilled to celebrate eight incredible holiday heroes from across Canada with the 2024 Wishbone Awards, including Ed Murray from Cranbrook.

Ed has organized an annual turkey dinner for seniors in the community for many years. In partnership with the Cranbrook Rotary Club, volunteers, food sponsors, and a local chef, Ed helps serve 450 meals at Columbo Hall. Tickets for the event are sold for $5, with all proceeds benefiting charity.

The 2024 dinner marked the 41st annual event, which was originally started by George Georgopoulos, a long-time member of the Cranbrook Rotary Club who passed away in 2020.

Ed continues George’s legacy of giving back to the community, ensuring that seniors can enjoy a festive and fulfilling meal each holiday season.

The Wishbone Award recipients will each receive a $2,500 grant to support their ongoing community initiatives and help spread holiday cheer.

The Wishbone Awards were created in response to the growing challenges of food insecurity in Canada, shining a light on the unsung heroes who go above and beyond during the holidays to ensure every table has a turkey.
