Local non-profit celebrates a successful year

JCI Kootenay members and their families recently came together to celebrate the organization’s achievements in 2017 and recognize some of the community’s most active young citizens.

The organization had a busy year hosting events including The Provincial All Candidates Forum, Leadercast JCI Kootenay, Pop Up Beer Stop (PUBS), Fall Fun Zone (In Conjunction with Columbia Basin Trust), the Santa Claus Parade and Memories With Santa.

Outgoing Chapter President James Farnan presented a number of awards on the night, including:

  • Rookie of the Year: Hayley Smith
  • Executive Member of the Year: Ashley Tanner (Treasurer)
  • Member of the Year: Angel Kaushal

Members Jesse Roberts, Tracy Thistle and Jordan MacDonald were also recognized for their efforts within the organization and the community.

Along with the awards, the chapter’s 2018 Executive, led by Incoming President Angel Kaushal, was also sworn in.

This year (2018) promises to again be busy for the organization, with the addition of the JCI Kootenay Colour Run to their list of annual events. President Angel Kaushal will also be attending the Conference of the Americas in Miami to represent Canada in the JCI Effective Speaking Competition.

JCI Kootenay is a non-profit organization, which provides young people aged 18-40 with development opportunities to create positive change. Anyone aged between 18-40 is encouraged to get involved.  To find out more visit their Facebook page or e-mail: [email protected].
