Mole Mobile coming to Cranbrook August 27-28

Melanoma Canada will be bringing its Mole Mobile to Cranbrook on August 27 and August 28.

The Mole Mobile is a skin cancer risk assessment and prevention education unit on wheels that visits remote and Indigenous communities. The mobile skin cancer screening unit will help thousands of Canadians get access to care in their communities while educating them on how to self-screen for melanoma and skin cancers.

The service visits a different part of the country each year.

It will be visiting Cranbrook on August 27 at the Western Financial Place Parking Lot on 1777 2nd Street North from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (MT). You can also visit the Mole Mobile in Cranbrook on August 28 at Sun Valley Nissan on 2024 Cranbrook Street N.

Interior Health would like to thank the City of Cranbrook for providing the site at Western Financial Place for the Mole Mobile to park and provide this valuable service.

Melanoma and skin cancer are seeing rising incidence rates in Canada and around the world. Incidence rates for new melanoma cases have been rising on average 1.4% each year over the last 10 years (CDC Statistics, 2016).

One in three cancers diagnosed are skin cancers, with skin cancers being the most common type of cancer diagnosed in men over 49 years of age. If detected early, melanoma and other skin cancers are largely treatable.

Skin cancer is considered largely preventable because exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (or UV) rays, which is the main cause, can be reduced. The best way to reduce your risk of skin cancer is to reduce your sun exposure.

For more information and the Mole Mobile’s schedule, visit www.molemobile.ca.

Please Note – The Mole Mobile performs skin cancer risk assessments only; this does not include a skin check exam. All participants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
