Portal launched to improve accessibility to city information

Providing easy public access to the most up-to-date City of Cranbrook data is behind the launch of the city’s new Open Data Portal, which is accessible on the city’s website.

One of the many goals of this new service is to create simple, self-serve access to residents, businesses, developers, engineers, contractors, and others to all kinds of city-related data and information for free, and downloadable in a variety of file types.

At launch, the Portal provides data like garbage and recycling zone pickup information, Zoning and Official Community Plan (OCP) maps, underground infrastructure, land use information, LIDAR elevation data, updated aerial photography (2023) and downloadable property service cards for builders and contractors.

“A lot of work planning and organizing has gone in to making all of this data accessible and available to anyone who wants it,” said Curtis Mummery, Manager of Roads and Infrastructure for the city.

“It is a living page being updated regularly and as new data becomes available, this portal will reflect that. No more having to reach out to staff to find this information for you. It really removes a lot of limitations, while improving both transparency and accessibility. I hope people find it useful and use it often.”

The Open Data Portal can be found right on the homepage at www.cranbrook.ca or users can bookmark the URL on their computers, tablets, or smartphones for quick access on the go.
