RCMP seek witnesses after fire at Amy Woodland School

Cranbrook RCMP is currently seeking witnesses after an early morning fire at Amy Woodland Elementary School.

At approximately 4:18 a.m. this morning (June 30), Cranbrook RCMP was called to a fire at Amy Woodland School, located in the 900-block of 6th Street S.  On attendance it appeared that the fire was located in the gymnasium area of the building. Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) attended the scene and began fighting the fire.

Nineteen firefighters and four apparatus responded to the fire call. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire coming from the building. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack immediately.
There were no injuries. An investigation into the cause of the (incident) will begin shortly, CFES reported on social media.

“At this time the fire is under investigation. We are looking for anyone who might have any camera or dashcam footage in the area of the school between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. to contact the Cranbrook office,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron.
