Residents face charges for hard drug trafficking

Cranbrook RCMP has conducted two significant drug seizures leading to recommendation of charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking within days of each other.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on September 29, a Cranbrook RCMP General Duty officer observed a driver she knew to be unlicensed. The vehicle stop led to the driver and passenger being arrested and searched.

During the search police located a number of packages containing what is believed to be cocaine. Also seized were electronic devices, over $2,000 cash in combined Canadian and US currency, an air pellet gun as well as other evidence-related property.

Two males, 26 and 21 years of age, who are residents of the Cranbrook area and known to police, were released on several conditions to appear in court at a later date. Police are recommending charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The second event took place on September 30, at approximately 1:10 p.m.

Cranbrook RCMP General Duty members were conducting an investigation that led to a traffic stop of a vehicle where the lone male was arrested for an unrelated criminal offence.

The 30-year-old male driver and lone occupant resisted but was eventually brought under control. During the investigation, police seized over 100 grams of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine and over $3,000 cash.

The male was also in breach of several conditions on unrelated matters, reported S/Sgt. Hector Lee, Cranbrook RCMP Detachment commander.

The male was held in custody and is facing several charges recommended by Cranbrook RCMP in addition to the possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Those charges include: resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer, breach of conditions and obstructing peace officer.

No injuries resulted from this matter. The male is a Cranbrook area resident who is known to police.
