Rotary and JCI Kootenay to expand trail in Moir Park

Local service groups continue to add to Cranbrook’s Active Transportation Network

Another year, another phase, Rotary Club of Cranbrook in partnership with JCI Kootenay with major sponsorship provided by McElhanney, the City of Cranbrook, BA Blacktop and Emco Waterworks are proud to continue their commitment to Cranbrook’s Active Transportation network with Phase 2 of the Moir Park Perimeter Trail.

This phase will consist of a paved trail encircling the soccer field and offering a connection to the new Disc Golf course. Future phases will see the trail continued around the perimeter of the park and connect to the Rotary Trail and City of Cranbrook cycling/walking networks.

“This a great example of people and businesses from Cranbrook working together to create a trail to allow people with all physical abilities to enjoy Moir Park and what Cranbrook has to offer,” said lead trail designer and Past JCI Kootenay Chapter President Derek Penson.

“Moir Park is quickly becoming a real gem in Cranbrook, and we are excited to continue our work to polish that gem,” added Past JCI BC/Yukon Regional President and geotechnical consultant Marcus Brown.

Construction of the trail will kick off with a work party on Saturday September 23, at 9 a.m.

With the help of residents, members of Rotary Club of Cranbrook and JCI Kootenay, and other volunteers, sod will be stripped, and gravel will be placed and spread in preparation for paving later.

A prime rib lunch and beverages prepared by Jim Cupido of Columbo Lodge will be provided to all volunteers.
